The history of internet in this flat is not a moral one. Ever since we got here, we've been "borrowing" internet from a neighbor, but it became less and less dependable. So, I had been making frequent visits to the local bar Café Melbourne to use their WIFI resources and had been lugging my laptop 20 min. to the Rectorat campus to use the WIFI there. Finally, we got fed up. The only place we could access the little internet we had when we were home was in the living room- the only shared space we have (other than kitchen and bathroom) in the flat. We'd all cram into the living room (which is also the dining room) and try to use internet but each of us would want his/her own music playing, own MSN chats, own SKYPE calls (with silence from the others, please!), and it just wasn't working.
What finally happened?
We heard MSN (do-do-doot!) messages being sent from upstairs (thank you thin walls and floors!) so we went to ask our neighbors if we could share internet with them. Tah-Dah! They said "sí" and we all will pay a measly 3 euros per month to use reliable internet whenever we need it. What joy for the neighbors too! We will be paying 1/2 of their bill each month. If we had put in a phone line (Telefónica) it would have cost 90 euros flat rate. Then, to pay internet on top of that? We would be out a fortune. Thank God for providing new neighbors and big speakers on their computer so we knew they had MSN.
Internet frenzy over here. Last night everyone with a laptop was in their room for the first time with internet. We all listened to our own music and called our significant others and/or families. Joy!
